I'm a first-generation academic working in ecological research. Despite having (with hindsight) pretty obvious symptoms, poor awareness of the condition meant that I didn't realise that I had ADHD until I had finished my PhD and moved to Oxford as a postdoctoral researcher. Studying with undiagnosed and untreated ADHD was unnecessarily tough at times, so I'm passionate about reducing these struggles for those coming after.
