Neurodiversity in STEM | Talk & Social

stem day

Join us on Wednesday 6 March at 17:00 (8th week) in St Anne's College, Seminar Room 1 for an event dedicated to exploring neurodiversity in STEM! We will be joined by Sara Middleton, a DPhil student in plant sciences from the Department of Biology, who will be giving a talk titled "Roots, blooms and STEMs: a neurodivergent plant scientist’s academic journey". Stay after the talk to meet other neurodivergent folks in STEM, share experiences, and enjoy some light refreshments. This event has been requested by our Neurodiversity at Oxford community and we hope you can make it to celebrate the end of Hilary term!

Find out more about Sara below and email neurodiverseox@st-annes.ox.ac.uk if you have any questions or accessibility concerns.

Sara Middleton

Sara Middleton is a plant sciences DPhil student, based in Oxford’s Department of Biology and researches climate change impacts on UK grasslands.

She was late diagnosed autistic, ADHD and dyslexic and over the last couple of years has come to recognise how deeply her neurodivergence has shaped her bumpy academic journey from schooling to PhD. In her talk, Sara will share her insights of navigating STEM as a neurodivergent person from special interests to trying to understand the root of scientific problems, designing field experiments, and branching into different disciplines. She will also touch upon how her neurodivergence intersects with race, gender and disability has influenced her academic path.
